The FASTBACK™ utilizes a more traditional upper left bout instead of a double cutaway. This keeps the guitar from looking too stretched out, and also mirrors the lower right quadrant of the guitar.We were then able to create a deep treble side cutaway for easy access to the higher register.
The single cutaway also provides greater neck to body contact, resulting in better attack and sustain. Combine all this with the offset body, which shifts the weight of the guitar away from the neck, and you have an ideal setup.

(Used-Original) Epiphone Zakk Wylde Bullseye Les Paul Electric Guitar

This solid-body electric is the brainchild of Ozzy/Black Label Society guitarist Zakk Wylde, who has dominated the rock and metal scene for years with his “Alvin Lee on crack” Precision soloing style. His Les Paul is very traditional, with some stylistic touches that make it his own. The mahogany body has the familiar Les Paul shape with an arched top and seven-layer binding top and bottom. You’ll either love the bullseye paint job or you’ll hate it, and this guitar makes no apologies about it’s looks.

It was 2005 Bullseye model, made in good old China, with a very fast and smooth unfinished maple neck. Similar to a Strats, and this is what brought my attention to the guitar.

The Epiphone Zakk Wylde Signature Les Paul Custom is custom-designed by Zakk Wylde, guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne and front man of the Black Label Society and arguably the most influential guitar hero of our time. Zakk’s mind-bending neck speed is closer to your grasp thanks to this model’s satin-finish, SlimTaper, set, Hard Maple Neck on Mahogany body with Zakk’s distinctive “Bullseye” pattern set on an Antique Ivory finish. His punishing tone is at your fingertips with screaming EMG-HZ4 and EMG-HZ4A humbuckers. More brutal tone and sustain are at your command with Epiphone LockTone™ locking Tune-o-matic bridge and Stop-bar tailpiece. The fast fingerboard has the iconic “block” inlays, as well as the “split-diamond” Abalone headstock inlay. Also living up to the original style, is the vintage original tone voiced by a pair of high-output Alnico Classic Humbuckers.

 

Sound:

Suits me down to the ground, I play metal, tuned down to B a lot, and also a lot of blues. The EMG’s have a warm tone in the bridge and a very sharp and striking lead tone in the neck. Full rich sound with no buzz at all. They are EMG’s after all. Very easy to do pinch harmonics, which lets face it, it why most people buy this guitar anyway. I couldn’t believe how much crunch it had. Zakk wanted a maple-neck because he wanted to increase the brilliance of tone, he made it. Well, the passive pickups are not the best (because of that I’ve put in the EMG81, EMG85′s) but they’re quite powerfull. The passive pickups are the passive version of the active EMG81 which has a very aggresive tone. I liked the passive ones but I wanted the active ones. It fits perfectly for pinched harmonics (if you know Zakk). Because of the body mass on this guitar, they give amazing sweet sustains.

The AVION™ series guitars, while paying tribute to these original designs, offers its own unique visual character and performance benefits. Many players love the look of an arch top solid body, but are not aware of the incredible performance benefits it provides.

The arch top adds mass for rigidity under the bridge, preventing the body from stealing energy from the string. This may add some weight, but the improvement in attack and sustain is worth it.

The maple top on a mahogany body provides serious definition with an amazingly warm tone. The single cutaway design shortens the exposed area of the neck, making it more secure and therefore more rigid. Combining this with a set neck greatly improves string performance.

The ZAD80E is a high level Zager guitar that can be found for as little as $995. 

It features a Western Red Cedar top and Indian Rosewood back and sides. This results in a mellow yet sweet tone that all of the instructors who played the guitar made note of. It features a Fishman ClearWave 60 electronics package which features a built in tuner and equalizer. This guitar sounds every good plugged in as it does acoustically. As with all of the Zager guitars this beauty has an extremely fine tuned setup allowing it to be played easily and without fret buzz or intonation problems.

This guitar uses a wide variety of quality woods, especially when compared to other offerings in it's price range. A beautiful guitar with a nice, sweet sound that feels very focused. You get a lot of bang for your buck when compared to Martin or Taylor guitars. You would have to spend considerably more to get a similar guitar.

This guitar has exceptionally nice intonation up the neck. It has a very bright sound with rich, full mids. The fretboard is extremely comfortable, but slightly thicker than I would prefer. It still functions perfectly though and the thumb can still be wrapped around comfortably. The action along the entire neck is comfortable and fast without any buzzing. Difficult barre chords are easy to play on this guitar and the overall playability is excellent.

Summing up the entire Zager line of guitars is positively easy. They are excellent. Every model included in this review was well made, impeccably setup and both played and sounded beautifully. Each guitar in the Zager line was priced fairly, and in many cases you would have to spend hundreds of dollars, or even double in some cases, to purchase a guitar comparable to the Zager in terms of sound and playability.

Each guitar comes with several nice touches, including a picture of Denny Zager (the designer of the Zager brand of guitars) playing the purchased guitar, a Zager t-shirt and an extremely nice hardshell case. The cases even feature a humidifier in some models, which was a nice touch.

Truth be told, musicians at Areeya House Jakarta enjoyed this group of guitars so much..!
